Baby Chicks At 24 Days Old!

You Lookin' At Me?

The chicks are growing so fast!  Every couple days it seems that they have just exploded another inch.  They are coming into the stage when their feathers are growing in, and they look rather ragged and prickly as their fuzzy down gives way to feathers.  This chick is one of the more advanced ones with her pretty red colors beginning to show.

Babies at the big girl feeder!

Here are a couple others where you can see the different stages of
feathering.  We moved them out to the coop last week one day, and it didn't take them very long (just moments) to begin exploring their large space.  They are flying low all over the coop now, I guess it's easier and faster than walking or running!  They can get up to about a six inch altitude!  Won't be long before they will be roosting on the lower perches.

Checking out the camera!

Here's a few of them, huddled in a corner, checking out both me and the camera.  You can see what I mean by looking rather "unkempt".  It won't be long before they are beautiful, red, and full of shiny feathers.  At about 22 weeks they are supposed to start laying eggs, and according to the hatchery, lay they will!  Eggs anyone?

Carpe Diem! Lil and Bill
