Kheli and Kahn - Doing So Well!

Kheli and Kahn

Haven't said much lately about our Livestock Guard Dogs from Clear Creek kennel. Thought it was about time I shared some of the experiences we've had with them these last few months.  It took us longer than we thought to finish building the fence around our two acre property on which the house sets.  During this time, Kheli and Kahn spent their time in the enclosed chicken yard.  They went for walks daily, and truly looked forward to it every evening.  Now that they are free, they are enjoying their space very much.

At first we thought we had a couple of angelic Anatolian Shepherd pups from Clear Creek Kennel.  It quickly became evident that they were very lively, mischievous, full of vinegar puppies.  First, our wood pile became strewn throughout the yard - little chew toys for them. Bill moved the entire pile to the pasture side, problem fixed, right?  Not in the least, they didn't miss a beat.  A young dogwood tree was pulled right out of the ground and carried to the middle of the yard.  Bill put it in a pot, hope it lives.  My baby, a weeping willow tree we've been nurturing for the past three years, almost all of the bark got chewed off the trunk.  Not happy at all, Bill put fence wire around it, so far, so good.  The wood in the fire pit, very tasty, yes.  Our grapevine, the biggest one we have, it must have been great fun pulling it out, not only out of the ground, but off the wires that it was completely entangled with.  Oh, they just broke those.

Kahn loves the Grandchildren!
So goes the challenges of raising very large puppies.  They're wonderful dogs, very obedient when we're around, we feel very protected with them nearby (from what or whom I'm not sure yet), and they are very gentle with the grandchildren, chickens, and guineas for the most part.  But when the sun goes down, and their not chasing away goblins, no one knows what they will find to occupy their time until morning.

Carpe diem! Lil and Bill
